  • Ka Karoon Sajni Aaye Na Baalam I miss Yourlisten. I have some wonderful memories associated with this place. I keep thinking of posting a song or two here but then get distracted by other things. It's Naqvi ji's request that finally urged me to post again after five years. Hope all of you are safe and well. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year. The original thumri was based on Raaga Sindh Bhairavi (popularized by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan) but the film adaptation, that was sung by Yesudas ji, was based on Raaga Kirwani bringing in the flavor of Bhairavi. *Wikipedia info*. Film: Swami Music: Rajesh Roshan Lyrics: Amit Khanna Original singer: Yesudas Here is a link to YouTube in case you wish to watch the video I made for this song. https://youtu.be/LBAjtnYdqi0 Best regards to all.

  • Na Jeo na (Bengali version of O Sajna Barkha Bahar Ayee)
Na Jeo na (Bengali version of O Sajna Barkha Bahar Ayee) Music: Salil Chowdhuri Original Singer: Lata Mangeshkar Has been a while since I sang a Bangla song. I have been asked by several friends to go back to my roots. So I picked a song that has a familiar tune and can be enjoyed by my non-Bangla speaking friends as well. This song was originally sung as a part of a "Pujo" album. It was later used in the 1960's movie Parakh. Thanks everyone for taking the time to listen. I value your feedback and encouragement very much. A rough translation of the lyrics given below: Please don't leave yet The night is still young There so much more to give The night sparrow tweets I am yours in this life...and beyond Want to hold you captive in my eyes Please don't leave The words I want to utter The pain that I hold hidden in my heart Let me forget those words My life, like this night, will be over soon You will sail off like the moon at dawn So please stay... Thank you everyone

  • Ye hai reshmi zulfon ka andhera (Asha Bhosle)
Ye hai reshmi zulfon ka andhera (Asha Bhosle) Have been obsessed with O P Nayyar, lately. For the last few days, I've been solely listening to his compositions. Hence, thought of covering one of his famous songs sung by Asha ji. Strange that he never worked with Lata ji in his entire career. He was extremely fond of Geeta Dutt, Md. Rafi and Asha Bhosle. Hope I did justice to the creation of an amazing music director. Thanks to a dear friend for mixing this. And thank you all for making the time to listen. Hope you guys like it Movie: Mere sanam Music: O.P. Nayyar Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri Original singer" Asha Bhosle

  • Woh Kagaz ki kashti (That little paper boat)
Woh Kagaz ki kashti (That little paper boat) Memories of childhood..... Love listening to ghazals, but never dare to sing them because of my imperfect diction. And good Urdu pronunciation is an absolute must while singing such beautiful poetry. However, couldn't resist singing this one... that too, as a solo. I have some fantastic co-singers here on YL but I still sang this alone because I wanted to sing the lines of Jagjit Singh ji. I can relate so much to every line in this song that I had to take the plunge. So, friends, please pardon all my flaws. This song takes me back to the days of simple joys and innocent adventures. And then I wonder, when did life become all about finishing projects, meeting deadlines and making that measly bonus! Wish we all had a time-machine to go back to our childhood. Thank you Naqvi ji, for the correct lyrics. If not for you, I would be singing "peepal ki chhaiyon ki" instead of "peetal ke challon ke". And a huge big thanks to my friend Ravi for mixing this. You are truly awesome! Lyrics: Sudarshan Fakir Original singers: Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh Don't know who composed the music. I think it was Jagjit Ji, but if I am wrong, please let me know and I'll add that here. Thanks everyone for all your support and encouragement

  • My first Tamil duet with Giridharan Ji - Parvai Ondre Podume
My first Tamil duet with Giridharan Ji - Parvai Ondre Podume A huge thanks to Naqvi ji for engineering this track. He blended two tracks and did his magic to create this one. When Giri ji asked me to sing a duet with him, I was on cloud nine. Felt like I won the Oscar or something. Always listened to his songs and felt what an amazing singer he is. Such melodious, baritone voice which creates an ethereal ambiance no matter which genre he selects. I can't express in words how much I respect him. That respect grew multiple folds when I exchanged emails with him during the process of this song. He is not only a talented singer but a wonderful human being, and an excellent teacher. I learned so much while doing this duet. With a teacher like him anyone could sing in any language. Thank you Giri ji. This is my first attempt at singing in a language which I don't understand a single word of. Sorry for my diction errors. Never tried singing a Tamil song before. But had so much fun while learning and singing this sweet melody. I could go on and on, but I want to post this quickly. Giri ji sent the final version a few days back but I couldn't log into YL to upload earlier. If I've missed something important in the description, I'll add that later. Movie: Yaar Nee (Woh kaun thee was the Hindi version) 1966 Original singers: T. M. Soundatarajan & L. R. Eswari Music : Vedha Cover by: Giridharan & Piyali

  • Dil ko hazaar baar (Murder)
Dil ko hazaar baar (Murder) My humble attempt at a different genre of songs. A comparatively newer number, from the movie Murder. But I like the "old school" cabaret feel to the melody, explained very well by a music critic on India Glitz,"...Then there's the ever-alluring Alisha Chinai doing the rippling rhythms of "Dil ko hazaar baar roka roka roka". The pulsating pace and the irresistible vocal velocity are reminiscent of Geeta Bali's songs for O.P. Nayyar." So, whenever I hear this song, I visualize Geeta Bali, may be lip-syncing to Geeta Dutt's rendition. A senior co-singer of mine advised that I should upload a solo in between my duets. I am looking forward to uploading my next duet with a very revered singer on YL. So, consider this as a buffer song. :-) Sung playfully, on a "spur of the moment" kind of impulse. Hope you guys like my "different" style of singing. Film: Murder (2004) Singer: Alisha Chinai Music Director: Anu Malik Lyrics: Rahat Indori

  • Ye Kisne geet chheda ...Duet with Chandranji
Ye Kisne geet chheda ...Duet with Chandranji I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to sing with some great singers on YL. Chandran Ji is one of those singers who I have always admired and respected. So, when he asked me to sing a duet with him and introduced me to this rare gem, I was elated! Not only did I love this song, but when I looked up for more songs from the same film, I liked them all. Whenever S.D. Burman and Shailendra Ji teamed up, they created magic together. Though one song from this film, "Pucho na kaise maine rain beetaaye" is actually a Nazrul Geeti, "Aruno kanti ke go jogi bhikhari". I hope Kazi Nazrul Islam was credited in the titles of the movie. Thank you Chandran Ji, for introducing me to this song, for singing with me, giving me tips on diction, and mixing the song so well. Everytime I sing a duet, I get to know my YL family members more closely. And that's an added bonus on top of enjoying beautiful music. Original singers:- Mukesh & Suman Kalyanpur FILM: MERI SURAT TERI AANKHEN (1963) Music: SD Burman Lyrics: Shailendra Cover by: Chandrasekharan Nair & Piyali
