About two weeks ago a friend from Pakistan shared a cover from an unknown artiste for this song. I already knew this song very well hence enjoyed the cover too but I was disappointed a bit when he sang one word in the last antara wrong which made me think the guy sang this famous Bahadur Shah Zafar poetry (actually Muztar Khairabadi. Read important note at the end of my description) without understanding. The correct line in the last antara is "Paiye Fatiha Koi Aaye Kyoun". Paiye means "for" and Fatiha is "prayer"...so the line means why would one come to offer prayer. The guy sang Aye Fatiha Koi Aaye Kyoun...it sounded so stupid though he sang the entire song so perfectly in tune. Got to listen one more cover and heard the same thing in that too. Probably these cover singers didn't understand the use of this word...sure it is a unique one and seldom used but it is one word in Urdu. I assume they thought Rafi Saab made a mistake and sang Paiye but that was not the case.

A week later I received a very good karaoke from Adina requesting me to sing this Nazm and I began to think did telepathy had a role here or what? One of the most challenging songs for me that appears and need to be sung with as much simplicity considering the nature of the song. The song describes the last days of the Poet and last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar who was ripped off his thrown and sent to exile by the British. It is known that the King used to take advice and some corrections about his poetry from Mirza Ghalib.

You just need to listen a bit more carefully and I am sure you will understand the poetry, its not difficult. Thank you Adina for this track...I hope I sang creating the right mood. Hope friends enjoy this Nazm.

In a startling revelation, veteran lyricist and poet, Javed Akhtar says the ghazal was written by his grandfather Muztar Khairabadi and not Bahadur Shah Zafar as has been widely known. Quote from Hindustan Times. Link below:
