Song: Tere Liye
Film: Veer Zaara (2004)
Lyricist: Javed Akhtar
MD: Sanjeev Kohli (Son of Madan Mohan) – Unreleased Composition by Madan Mohan
Original Singers: Lata M & Roop Kumar Rathod
Tribute By: Bandana Ray & Madhukar Mehta

This duet is one of the most melodious compositions I have loved for a long time and remained on my “To Do” list trying to gather courage to tackle. Quite some time ago, I tentatively approached Bandana ji for the possibility to collaborate and for my lucky stars, she readily agreed. Again, I procrastinated for a while but during one of conversations after several months, Bandana ji gently reminded me about our pending project. Now to save my face, I had to start working on the duet which by any means was not an easy task for me. While I was working on this song, the theme for the forum where I upload my songs presented us with an opportunity so I jumped at this song with an extra push and here we are with our humble attempt at this gorgeous composition by the evergreen musical genius Madan Mohan Sahab.

I thank Bandana ji for gracing me with her accompaniment as the co-singer and Paras ji for giving us an opportunity to present this lovely number for your listen.

Caution: Use of good quality headphones may enhance your listening experience.

Tid-Bits about Veer-Zaara (Source: Wikipedia)

The soundtrack of Veer-Zaara was released on CD and especially on Audio DVD. The music is based on old and untouched compositions by the late Madan Mohan, as revised by his son Sanjeev Kohli.

Yash Raj Music also released complete background music of Veer-Zaara, this being a rarity. The CD was titled The Love Legend Themes - Instrumental.

The famous playback singer Lata Mangeshkar sang most of the songs. She used to sing with Madan Mohan, so there was a special poignancy to her contributions. According to Yash Chopra, upon coming for the recording, with tears in her eyes, Lata Mangeshkar told him, "Madan Mohan was like my brother. You [Chopra] are like my brother. I feel I have gone back in past". Other singers like Jagjit Singh, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Gurdas Mann, Roop Kumar Rathod, Ahmed Hussain, Mohammad Hussain and Pritha Mazumder also appear in the soundtrack. The album was the bestselling Bollywood soundtrack of the year.

Javed Akhtar won the “Film Fare” and “Bollywood Movie” Best Lyricist awards for this song “Tere Liye”.
