Not every DJ can claim to have been around name-brand artists since childhood, or to have absorbed reggae music and culture from infancy. DJ Felix, son of reggae journalist John Masouri, can although it was a trip to Kingston in 1997 and visits to studios like Big Ship, Penthouse, Mixing Lab and Anchor that awakened his desire to get involved and make his own contribution to the music he loves.

Inspired by Luciano and encouraged by the late Fatis Burrell, he began DJing at a night called Strictly Reggae, held at the Volk’s on Brighton seafront every Monday. Seventeen years later and Strictly Reggae is the South East’s longest running reggae night. It was there he teamed with sing-jay / MC Culture B and founded Natural Elements; a popular pairing that played in and around Brighton and opened for visiting acts like Toots & The Maytals, Freddie McGregor, Maxi Priest and the Wailers. He has also DJed alongside Prince Fatty and currently you'll find him selecting on the odd Friday at Riki Tiks.

As a DJ, he’s coming from the days of import 7” pre-release, fresh from Jamaica, which means his knowledge of reggae runs deep. Bob Marley promised that when “the music hits, you feel no pain” and that’s what he delivers, no matter the style. Free of prejudice, he plays all forms of reggae, whether ska, rocksteady, roots, lovers’ rock, one-drop, dub or dancehall, and whilst making sure to include remixes of every description, including r & b and hip-hop. Like the artists whose work he admires he aims to please his audiences, and use the music to spread love and happiness. That takes integrity, vision, heart and soul – qualities he has in abundance. Oh, and an unbelievable music collection, which goes without saying!
